Description du programme de recherche

The objective is to investigate and propose new devices and architectures enabling high-throughput and energy-efficient data communication within high-performance computing platforms such as data centers and computer clusters. In the last few years, the bandwidth density requirement is rapidly increasing with the advancement of multicore processors. The interconnection between shared elements such as processors and shared memory elements has become a bottleneck in achieving greater performance. The project explores off-chip network interfaces based on the development of silicon integrated photonic devices for low-power interconnection. The project also studies the potential of plasmonics technology for on-chip and off-chip data communications towards hybrid interconnections for more energy-proportional computing. At the architecture level, the project is jointly investigating optical interconnections and electrical error-correcting coding towards low-cost high-bandwidth density hardware implementation.
